Why? Can someone tell me why this story about a guy coloring his hair is considered to be news? Why didn't I get an AP article when I colored my hair blue? Or green? Or purple? Or silver to match my prom dress? Or the red and green combo for Christmas? Sometimes I really have to wonder about the people in charge of the media. Is the world really so boring that they had to write this article?

Driving in Snow I thought I was going to go crazy with the Bitchy Mom's paranoia over the weather here this week. She flew in to spend Thanksgiving with me in a nearly empty dorm. Nice? Yes, in some ways. I suppose this column should make me happy to know she's not the only one that goes crazy when one flake hits the ground. It doesn't. I just annoys me to know that if I'm driving past this guy, she would just use him as an example of why I should slow down to 10 miles an hour on a cleared interstate. I understand that a dusting of snow shuts everything in Oklahoma down for three weeks. I've been here for almost four years! I have learned a thing or two about winter driving. Granted, I will admit that I have more to learn. For example, I cannot get out once my car gets stuck in the snow. An ex of mine was from Wisconsin. Every morning that I left his house in winter, he had to back my car out of the driveway. The one morning that he left before I got my car out, I got very stuck. There was probably three and a half feet of snow on the ground at that point in winter. My wimpy little Cavalier doesn't like the snow. There's really no point to the story so I won't continue. Just don't get stuck in snow. But don't be afraid to drive on a cleared road either.

EYPs in Training This story about some young fur protesters is not the first thing I wanted to read when I woke up this morning. My favorite quote from the youngsters?
Lior, 17, said she and her brother are natives of Israel. ''I'm used to protesting so much against war and other things; I hope this is helpful,'' she said.
Knowing that this chick can go to college to major in protesting makes me want to go back to bed. Maybe I will.

Holiday Season First I'd like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday season, whether you will soon be celebrating Chanukah, Christmas, Kwanza, or any of the other holidays I probably don't know of. I just want to relate an interesting story of something Bitter and I saw yesterday. So we were driving through one of the neighboring towns waiting for the next showing time of the requisite after-Thanksgiving-dinner movie. Well, as we're driving by the town common, we see a banner over the road. Now, this is Thanksgiving Day, so maybe you would expect to see something along the lines of "Happy Thanksgiving", but no, not here. This banner reads "Happy Ramadan." Added to that we had just been talking about that in this area, it seems to be "politically correct" to dislike Jews. Well, apparently, I'm very unPC (as if I didn't know this already). I would still like to know why that banner was hanging and not one that read "Happy Thanksgiving" (or for those of you who are politically correct "Happy Turkey Day"), after all Thanksgiving is a national holiday, Ramadan... not so much.

Celebrate good times, come on! I feel like singing that song today. I celebrated Buy Nothing Day today!

The tally so far:
Four steaks, two fluorescent lights, dishwashing liquid, a phone, food, alcohol, shoes, christmas gifts and decorations, thank you gifts, and car supplies. I spent well over $100. For a broke college student, that's quite a bit of money. Make sure you do your part! Buy something! :)

1984?? So I decided to do some pleasure reading here on the break and I chose to read 1984 by George Orwell. Well, I checked out Bitchpundit, because I hadn't been by there in a while and I love her war propoganda. I saw a post that startled me however. If you scroll down some on her page you'll see something a little frightening. Can we say Big Brother? I wonder how long until the Thought Police start coming for us.

The French a Large Target ? So in my free time since I am not in a car on my way home, I decided to see what was happening in the world. I came across this article. Personally I think the situation is damn funny. You would think since this man is mentally ill, and the fact that's he's pulled shit like this before, he would be locked up somewhere. But no, it's "He's ill, he can't help what he does." Screw that, lock him up for his own good. But what I thought was the most laughable part of the article was this:
Defense Minister Michele Alliot-Marie said in an interview published this week that France was a leading target of terrorist groups.

As my brother would say, those pansy ass French heads? Come on... this is the country that gave up when the Nazi's came knocking. I think they're more likely to actually like Americans than to be a leading target of terrorists. They're pansy ass French heads.... who thinks they need terrorizing?

Going Home So there has been a slight glitch in my plans of going home. It now appears that I will be driving my car (pray that it makes it to Ohio and back everyone). Because I fucked up again, I will have a nice 12 hour drive all by myself. But I guess the good thing is I can get my car fixed... everything from the dent some idiot put in it when she backed up in the middle of the street without looking, to my radiator hose that I unsucessfully tried to install. My mother will also get to see the damage done to my car when it was broken into... oh joy. At least I will be at home... well I better get my computer packed so I can get some sleep and get out of here bright and early tomorrow morning.

UPDATE: I'm still in rural New England. My mother would have killed me if I had tried to drive my dying car all the way to Ohio. Speaking of my dying car, anyone want to buy me a new one?

We Always Do That First, you know we always riot. The Buckeyes win, we riot. The Buckeyes lose, we riot. There's not much else to do in Columbus. I was actually expecting to hear about the riots when I went home. It's never quite the football season without one riot down at OSU.

Getting away from that, I can totally relate about looking forward to going back to the mid-west for a few days. I'll get to see my baby Faith (who by the way is a dog), my family, my grandmother (who is now in a nursing home recuperating), and some friends from high school as well. It's really weird to think that I am going to be an auntie about a week or so from now. It's exciting and sort of sad at the same time. I really wish I could be at the hospital when my neice decides to make her debut. Who knows, maybe she'll be really nice to her auntie and make an early appearance. This weekend was spent making some choices. I made some rather major decisions for my future. I've actually decided to stay all year next year. As tempting as graduating a semester early is, I have too many things holding me here. There are still some things that I need to resolve before I can make some other decisions, but I've decided to leave that until after the break. My plan is to leave my worries here, take my work with me, and try to relax this weekend. At least I'll have the long drive (even longer than First has to put up with) to get some of my reading done.

2 Days to Go Now begins the countdown to thanksgiving break! I am looking forward to getting back to the good old mid-west for a few days. I miss my family, a few of my old friends, my snuggly doggies (kitty too), and the Great Lakes. It will be quite the drive, but I my Grandmother's thanksgiving dinner and the Degas exhibit at the DIA makes it entirely worth it. So, this weekend I visited my "Prince Charming," as Bitter noted in a previous post. I had a fabulous time in Cambridge, which included a visit to the New England Aquarium (one of my favorite places in Boston) and Legal Sea Food, where I enjoyed a bowl of the best clam chowder I've ever had (all with my favorite man in the world, might I add). I definitely recommend both highly if you are planning a visit to the Boston area.

Unfortunately, I don't really have anything profound to blog about this evening. I'm rather pleased with life at this particular moment. In order to preserve my state of weekend bliss, I've decided to intentionally steer clear of all media resources for the next two days. Call me apathetic if you will, but once and a while I just need a break. Fortunately, I'm able to flip a switch and pretend that everything is wonderful, unlike many others whose lives ARE the horror we watch on CNN and read about in The New York Times. We are so lucky to live in a country where, for the most part, we are safe to go about our daily business.

PS. Yes, it's true, I lost the bet. Ohio State did win, but check this out. Heathens!

More Birthdays I didn't think that I would blog about a birthday that's making headlines today. In thinking about my own birthday plans, I've decided to give the girls some advice. My own 21st wasn't long ago, and I think I even recall a few minutes of the celebration.

To start, celebrate on your 21st. Don't wait. I had to wait about 2 weeks before I finally had the time to celebrate with friends. (It doesn't help that all of my legal friends were living in DC at the time.) So on the first night of CPAC, after having being forced to smile all day long, I only ate a cup of soup. Not smart. Eat a real meal girls. It's only around 5:30 where you are, so start eating. I went out with my friends to some bar in the Arlington area with a small parking lot and pool tables. That is all I remember, I swear. I think I vaguely remember glass doors. I may be mistaken. But on with the story! Based on the bill my friends found the next day (thanks ladies for treating me!), I had 3 Long Island iced teas, 2 screaming nazis, 1 sex on the beach, 2 beers and half a glass of water. Oh yeah, and I get car sick easily. So in my not so sober state, I was polite and offered the front seat to a friend. Yeah, bad move. Does northern Virginia spend any money on roadwork? I'm thinking not! We went to some guy's house. I think his name was Jeff. I don't actually remember this part that well. I think I passed out on the couch for about an hour. I remember waking up, deciding that I was going to be sick and calmly walking to the bathroom. My friends said that I was the most polite drunk they've ever seen. I held my own hair back and even cleaned the guy's bathroom while I was in there. I apologized several times. Learn a lesson here girls. Be polite drunks.

Amazingly, the next morning, with only 1 hour and 35 minutes of sleep (the amount of sleep I got after I was done in the restroom), I was able to get up, look quite polished and be nice to people for another 14 hours. My advice in the end? When drinking heavily, get sick. It only lasts for a few minutes, and it means less alcohol in your system when you wake up. So drink up girls! Oh yeah, make sure there are no cameras around. Only your closest friends should see you that drunk.

No! Really? Obviously the Blogosphere has been fact checking Michael Moore's fat ass. These are some of the most interesting inaccuracies I've seen. I haven't seen the movie, nor do I intend to. It's not that I'm opposed to seeing something with which I'm not likely to agree. It's that I don't want to give my money to a guy that likes to pretend his mistakes didn't happen and will manufacture lies to make a point. The bank example in the first link really pisses me off. I just don't want to think about it anymore. Maybe I'll open this issue again later today or tomorrow. Sleep is good. I'm running on about 3 hours of it right now.

Horoscopes So in my efforts to avoid getting my homework for next week done before break, I ran across a local paper's horoscope section online. What's mine you ask?
On Monday, you should work to put your frivolous and trivial concerns aside. Planetary influence promises strife and confusion. Wednesday might be rife with challenges requiring the assistance of others to enable you to cope with the situation. Seek the best way to play a part in the important game on Saturday. Reject insignificant distractions!
Interesting. I think I like The Onion's better.

Relationships The part of me that earned the name Bitter wants to scream “SUCK!” But I actually have a few not so interesting thoughts to share. Last week, several of the Bitches were joking around with another Bitch that she’s found her Prince Charming. Everything we’ve seen says that he’s perfect for her in every way. They are cute together, and they can talk on the phone for hours on end. He’s even leading her down the “right” path. :) Anyway, I’ve also been thinking about what qualities I’d like to see in the next guy I am involved with for any length of time. Then, out of no where, my friend Josh posted a list of qualities that he wants in the perfect man. I would link to his list, but he doesn’t have links to individual posts. For now you’ll just have to click here and scroll down. His reason for creating this list of 23 qualities?
I’ve been thinking what I want out of a mate lately. Not because I am pining for companionship, but basically because I don’t think I will find what I want if I don’t know what that is.
Needless to say, he has a point. Maybe someday I’ll come up with a comprehensive list for myself. I’ve learned a few lessons by dating assholes that are politically apathetic or don’t agree with me on at least a few issues.

In all of this though, I started thinking about a possible “big day” that might happen if I met the right guy. Why do I think about something that might not ever happen? That’s what chicks do. We’ve all had the big day planned since age five. It’s just a thing that I can’t explain. Blame it on hormones. Whatever. Anyway, thinking about this day, I thought of all the friends and family that I would have there with me. Josh would be there standing with me. He’s been one of the most stable people in my life. I even look forward to his big day. Obviously, several people have thoughtful arguments on this issue that I don’t need to repeat. The argument I want to make is a little more simple than all of those.

I just wonder why my best friend doesn’t get to have the same kind of big day. I can’t even begin to describe how much it hurts me to think about how unfair it is that I can’t be there for him during what is supposed to be one of the best days in someone’s life. I don’t understand religious objections to gay marriage. If a state allows same sex marriage, the churches don’t have to recognize the marriages in their religious beliefs or allow them to take place in their halls. As Baby and I were chatting about this topic, she even pointed out many churches won’t allow some heterosexual couples to marry. I know that my sins will keep me out of some churches. :)

Josh, I love you. I hope that someday you can be with me on my big day. More importantly, I hope that I can be with you to celebrate yours when you do find that perfect man.

Thank You, Again! I can't even begin to name the random bits of useful information I learn from How Appealing. Hell, I even recommended the site to one of my professors for her class. Anyway, I had no idea that possession of six or more sex toys in Texas was "intent to promote." Oh the evil thoughts going through my head. I almost feel that with all of these Southern states trying to get rid of sex toys that I should use my time here in New England to corrupt as much as possible. For example, Preppy, First, and Baby have never been to an adult store. I plan on taking them to one before they leave for the semester break.

I remember growing up I always wanted to go to the local chain of adult stores in Oklahoma and Texas because they were called Christie's Toy Box. That was back in more innocent times when I assumed Toy Box was for kids. See why I'm so screwed up?

Stupid People So I have never watched "The Bachelor" or any of it's spinoffs. I can't stand those shows, and I feel that they cheapen relationships. But today I ran across an article about the happy couple from this season of "The Bachelor" that was quite amusing. As far as I understand things, the chick said she'd marry this guy.
One hitch in their hitching plans is that Helene lives in Gloucester, N.J., while Aaron lives in Springfield, Mo. ''I'm not saying I'm ready to move tomorrow, but I'm open to the possibility,'' Helene said. ''I have a job, responsibilities that I've signed up for and close family and friends. So I'd have to feel really strong about our relationship and taking it to the next level to be able to go to Springfield, but I'm not opposed to it.''
Now maybe I'm too old fashioned, but I thought you were supposed to feel "really strong" about a relationship before you agree to spend the rest of your life with the person.

Saturday! Do you know what Saturday means? That's right, college football. I'm watching the Harvard-Yale game. I assume that Preppy is watching Ohio State upstairs. First would be with her, but instead she's headed off to see her boyfriend. Baby was over here watching it with me, but then she left because the game is pretty sad. We've both seen high school teams play better than Harvard and Yale are playing today.

UPDATE: When I first posted, it was a really pathetic game with Yale leading 6-0 at the end of the first half. Now with 29 seconds on the clock, Harvard is leading 20-13.

UPDATE 2: Harvard WINS!!!

Southern Living: More Than A Magazine Damn you. This suggestion for holiday meals got Baby and I started on a 4 hour conversation of why the South kicks ass. We miss home. We decided tonight that some weekend this spring we're taking off to drive to Virginia. We can get a cherry limeade and visit the Museum of the Confederacy. She's also said that she's going to go shooting with me on Sunday, and it will be her first time to shoot a handgun! Baby, we were so meant to be sisters. I even start to pick up your accent a little when we've been talking for a while.

So funny Southern story. At one point in high school, I was involved in a long distance relationship with a guy living in New Jersey. (Friend of a friend. It stopped working out when I moved closer and actually saw him more than 5 times a year.) One of the times he visited me, we ran into my grandfather while walking down the street. Ex-boyfriend put his hand out to shake my grandfather's. My granddad just looked at him and said, "So you're the goddamn Yankee that's dating my granddaughter." Then he just sized him up and walked on. At the time I was probably about 55 shades of red. Now I think it's great. :)

Our Northern Neighbor So first our poor little Baby has a bad experience in Canada (damn Qubecquois and their snotty French only law). Now I see this and I had to laugh. Now being in politics, you have to be aware that anything you say at any time can find its way into the press. The official now says she doesn't remember calling Bush a moron. But she did say this:
"If I made comments in the context of what I understood to be a private conversation, I regret that ... I accept full responsibility for them and I sincerely apologize," DuCros said in a written statement read before Canada's Parliament.

On another note, posting will probably be getting light as we head into the final stretch of the semester. Only 12 days of classes left ladies!!!

Frustration Woman cries rape. Police question woman. In the attempt to find a suspect, questions about her story arise. Woman admits she lied. Woman has managed to put 14,000 student campus on edge. What should be done to this woman?
"We don't plan to discipline or charge her," said Karen Grava, a university spokeswoman. "We're very sympathetic to her problems."
In similar hoaxes, women have been charged with falsely reporting an incident. But UConn police said that the case is closed, and "no further police action" will be taken.
Maybe I'm still too young and idealistic, but I thought the bad guy/girl was supposed to be punished. Instead, she's sent home with her father to think about her actions. As if the issue of rape isn't complicated enough at times (especially on a college campus), we have these spoiled little girls going around crying rape just to get attention with no consequences to face. Here's the story in the campus newspaper. (free registration required) Here's the coverage in local media. (no registration)

Part of the problem with any kind of representative to fill the positions is who will be allowed to select these students. Who is "black enough" to fill the "black seat" in the Senate? I can just imagine the fights now. Every election will be contested. Hell, I would have a problem with the jackass they want to elect representing conservatives. Little man trying to compensate for something that might be a little lacking. Believe me.

Arkansas: Where Siblings Are Also Cousins Interesting links to be found in this post at How Appealing regarding the state of public schools in Arkansas. Back at home, we always did believe that there was something screwy going on in that state, but it didn't have a thing to do with their schools.

NOTE: If we do have any Arkansas readers, I may or may not apologize. Remember, you produced Bill Clinton. It will take centuries to live that one down.

So Wrong As someone about to finish up her First Responder training, I can tell you several things went wrong in this case where a DC woman was found to have a pulse after already being sent to the morgue. First, based on the story, it appears that the paramedics may not have checked for signs of life as they should. If I heard someone sighing, I would sure as hell put them down and try to confirm the sound wasn't a sign of life. On top of that, as the article even asks, why didn't they start rescue breathing when they felt a pulse? They should have already been working on the woman when they suspected a pulse. But, the best part of this horrific story?
"There is no indication that she was alive at the time of the call," he said. "Her arms were flexed at the elbows and in rigor mortis. We all looked at each other and said, 'Okay, she is dead.' "
As Spooky put it, "Right. You looked at each other. That must mean she's dead." Between this and another tale of incompetence in the DC area, maybe I should rethink Fairfax. (Link to the dead woman via The Corner.)

This Needs To Stop When I see headlines like this one I just want to cry and then go out and exterminate the bastards responsible for these actions. What is the indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians going to do to help further their cause?
The murderer's father, Azmi, said he was pleased with his son. "Our religion says we are proud of him until the day of resurrection," Abu Hilail said. "This is a challenge to the Zionist enemies."
And some people wonder why a lot of Americans have a negative opinion about Islam. It doesn't help when the organizations that carry out these attacks have names like Islamic Jihad. If I were a muslim I would be outraged that these attrocities were being carried out in the name of my religion.
Reading the stories of the survivors and about the aftermath of these attacks always makes me feel sick, but it is a reality that these people live with.
Maor Kimche, 15, said he had just boarded the bus when the blast went off.
"Suddenly, it was black and smoky. There were people on the floor. Everything was bloody. There was glass everywhere and body parts," Kimche said.
The 10th grader, who was on his way to school in downtown Jerusalem, jumped out of a bus window and was scooped up by a taxi driver who took him to nearby Hadassah Hospital. Kimche was lightly injured in the left leg.
The youngster said the bus was crowded with high school students, soldiers and elderly passengers. He said he'd ride the bus again once he was well.
"How else will I get to school?" he asked.
The blast blew out the bus windows. A torso that had fallen over the side of the bus was covered with a white-and-blue checkered blanket. Sandwiches and schoolbooks lay scattered in the street.
As rescue workers removed the dead from the bus, the bodies were placed in black plastic bags that were numbered and laid out in a row along a sidewalk.
How can people do these things and then be praised for it?

More Service Men Attacked So what's up with Kuwaitis and attacking American service men? First we have two Marine's shot, one killed and the other seriously wounded. Then shots fired at American troops from some cars. After that more shots fired near a U.S. training area, and now this.
While Kuwait owes its independence and security to U.S. forces, anti-American sentiment is rising here and elsewhere in the Middle East because of U.S. support for Israel, the war against terrorism and threats of an American attack on Iraq.
Weren't we the ones who kept Saddam from taking over their little country? Damn straight we were. Sure, the U.S. supports Israel and a lot of people in the Middle East don't like that. We've also supplied arms to how many Middle Eastern countries over the years. And what's wrong with trying to get rid of terrorism? Taking a stand against it and attempting to eradicate it seems to me a damn good way to not let these little chicken-shit cowards accomplish their goal. I also suppose that only when it's in their immediate best interests it's ok to have the U.S. come and go to war with Iraq for them, but when Iraq looks like it may pose a threat to us and the rest of the world (because I'm so sure Saddam wouldn't use any of these weapons on his neighbors *cough* *bullshit* *cough*) and we prepare to answer that possible threat, and maybe, just maybe make things better for the Iraqi people by ousting the tyrannical "democratically-elected president" *cough* *bullshit* *cough*, it's not ok.

Ladies in Lingerie I guess the Victoria's Secret fashion show went well. I had class until 10:15 last night, so I didn't get to see it. I plan on watching it online sometime in the next few days. No doubt the PETA activists drove up the ratings, the coverage only reminded people of the date and time. Oh yeah, and the photos gave a glimpse of the show to entice potential viewers. Once again PETA, I just want to congratulate you.

UPDATE: As soon as I posted, I refreshed Drudge and found that I'm wrong. Unexpected. Between the protest coverage, and the constant reminder that last year's show sparked an investigation by the FCC, I would have expected more. How sad. I guess most of the country prefers Frederick's.

Rally for SOLIDARITY! Well one person (the one absent last week that didn't hear about all the jokes we made about the walkout) walked out today. So the professor made it the break time for the seminar. I went out to see what was going to happen, but nothing much did. I saw maybe 60 people headed over to the area and at the area as I made my way across campus for some food. I thought about waiting to see if they were going to do anything notable, but instead decided to go back to class to watch The Simpsons. Yes, we watch The Simpsons on our break for the class. I have more to write about, but I might take a nap. I'm supposed to be at a tea right now, but I've had a long day. I still have another class to attend tonight that lasts until 10. bed = warm and comfortable

Amusement I know I should feel bad about this or something, but this post about Nebraska's death penalty over at How Appealing made me laugh. There's even a part of me that wants to write the state of Nebraska a letter telling them how much more respect I have for them. I really sound like a sadistic bitch, but I swear I don't know why I had these thoughts. While I am a strong supporter of the death penalty, I want it to be as humane as possible. Back to Normal... Maybe Well, things are getting back to normal for me. I heard good news about my grandmother so I can rest easy on that account. The semester is racing towards the close and soon I will be at home for two glorious weeks and I'll get to dote over my new neice (at least it's supposed to be a girl). Well, checking out newsgroups I found out that the walk out is indeed still happening. Here is the latest posting.

20 MINUTES FOR PEACE
In observance of a Day of Action in which campuses nation-wide will hold anti-war protests and vigils for peace, People Opposing War asks the faculty and students of "elitist college in rural New England" who oppose the impeding war with Iraq to walk out of class and join together for 20 Minutes For Peace. It will be a simple way to show your support for the international peace movement that is growing daily.
When: Wednesday, November 20; 2:15 pm- 2:35 pm
Where: *central campus location*
Why: To protest the US war on Iraq
What: Walk out of class, followed by a rally on *central campus location* with Music, posters, armbands, a student Speaker-- to show SOLIDARITY against the war with Iraq.
Please come, be heard, and sign a National Referendum for No War with Iraq.

I would just like to point out that we are not at war with Iraq yet, so maybe the organizers would like to change the "Why" to something like "To protest possible US war with Iraq." We do go to "elitist college in rural New England" you would think they know the difference.

Ok, So Weird In my further attempt to keep my mind off my grandmother's surgery today, I checked out the link in Bitter's post, and the first thing I notice is a reporter I remember from middle school. See in my middle and high school we watched a news program called ChannelOne every morning. The anchors were usually college students or fresh out of college or grad school. Well, I've been thinking and a lot of the anchors from my time of watching ChannelOne have moved on to bigger and better things. Lisa Ling is on The View, Serena Altschul is a correspondent for MTVNews and does some reporting for CNN, as do Anderson Cooper (the guy everyone always thought was dead, because he got sent to all the hot spots) and Kris Osborn (who is really hot and went to Kenyon) . I just think it's so weird that now that I'm grown up and watch real news, some of the same people are giving me the news. It's also weird because I'm the only person I know who actually had to watch ChannelOne in school, well that is except for people I went to high school with, and so I'm the only one with this weird recognition thing going on.

Call for help. Bitter is a senior. Bitter wants a job to pay off the $13,000 in loans she'll have when she graduates. So unless some unbelievably wealthy guy steps up to sweep Bitter off her feet (maybe even making her unBitter), pay off those loans, buys her a small house on a small plot of land in the middle of Montana, and pays general living expenses, then she needs a job. What kind of job? Well, I thought I wanted to go into politics when I started college. I did the internship with the Congressman and found that it wasn't for me. Glorified social work for many staffers, partisan bs for the others. In the 4 years since my first internship, I found that I want to work with the gun issue. I know the issue and am learning more of the technical stuff everyday. I still have my love of politics, so ideally it would incorporate some element of it. I can handle the press fairly well, and I love working as somewhat of a grassroots organizer. I know an obvious organization is the NRA. I plan on applying there. However, do any of you readers know of any state level groups that might be interested in hiring an enthusiastic, friendly, peppy gun chick in July? I really am not picky about leads. I just want to continue to work on the gun issue. I've even debated going to states that are the most hostile towards gun rights (California, Maryland, Massachusetts) to work. That means essentially giving up my gun rights and my cute little Virginia concealed carry permit. But I would do it for this issue. It is that important to me. Anyway, so if you want to contribute to Bitter's desperate search for a job, feel free to send along any leads. :)

This Is Great So again, I was just checking out the news, trying to keep my mind of things happening at home and I see this. I think it's great that they've caught at least one of the escapees, but as I was reading the article I began to notice places I pass through infrequently. Like say Ashland, KY, I go through there just about every time I go down to visit family on my father's side. And then there was Marion, OH. I live maybe forty-five minutes to an hour East of Marion. I drive through Marion every time I go to see some of my fellow bitches when the three of us are in our mid-western homes. In fact the Ohio State Patrol pursued what is thought to be the second escapee down US 23, the same road I take to get to I-75. It's just weird that these things happen now that I'm gone... I always complained that nothing interesting ever happened in Ohio.

Liberal Arts Education So I'm at work reading Kim du Toit's Daily Rant today when I see this post about universities and liberal arts education.
And even in the so-called "liberal arts" schools, the Post-Modern school of thought, which has come to dominate academic circles, has trashed all our experience of the human condition, by rejecting the past as "irrelevant" (note the sneer inherent in the "dead White males" phrase).
I took a class dedicated to the "dead white men." There was a student in the course from a neighboring institution that, according to her, doesn't teach a single class that spends more than one session on these guys. That's scary. The dead white guys are part of history as well. Just because she felt they were part of the patriarchy or whatever bullshit doesn't mean you can pretend they didn't exist. I shouldn't be so hard on her. She did come to the class so she could learn about them. BUT, the story takes an interesting turn...

So a women's studies major walks into a bar... Just kidding. Anyway, so the chick is a WS major. She comes to the first class explaining that she wants to explore the writings of the dead white men. (Her words, not mine.) She pauses with a look on her face that says something big is coming up. Or at least she's trying to look like she's thinking. What comes out, but this bullshit. "I'm critical of myself in this class. I just have to resolve that while I want to learn about the dead white men, reason is inherently masculine. I don't want to give into the oppression." My jaw hit the ground. Immediately my hand shot into the air. When the professor turned to me, I said something about being critical of bullshit feminism that says things like "reason is inherently masculine." I refused to accept that women are the blubbering, emotional, PMSing brats that many WS departments want to perpetuate. Reason is not inherently masculine. What does that leave women as, unreasonable? I get mad even remembering that day. At least my college still has one class dedicated to the boys.

Happy National Ammo Day! It's like Christmas, only with guns!

Oh, and I just want to tell everyone that last night was the very first time First Bitch shot a gun. She seemed to love it, and she was amazing! On this target, she hit 90 of 99 rounds in the dark area. On the very first magazine she went through only one shot strayed from dark area, and she hit one right near the X. Not bad at all considering it was the first time she ever held a gun! I'm so proud of First! Here's the gun she shot.

A Horrible "Accident" Just before I snuggled up under my covers for a short nap, this is what I see on CNN.com. I can't stop crying now. How could this happen? Didn't we learn something from the Exxon-Valdez spill in 1989? Haven't our ships evolved with the advancing technology? I can't handle looking at more of those horrid pictures depicting innocent sea creatures and birds washed up on shore, dead and coated in oil. Do you want to know what makes me even more upset? It appears that all the wonderful European nations are going to begin pointing fingers and each other now...Who is going to pay for this injustice??? Who is going to take the blame??? Who is responsible for cleaning up the mess???

Meteor Showers I just got back from watching the meteor showers. I have to say, I became a little nastalgic. During the summers when I was a little girl, I can remember the nights when my friends and I would lay on the beach of lake Huron watching the meteors pass overhead with the sounds of the waves rolling onto the shore. Then I realized it was 30 degrees ouside and my ass was stuck to the ice below me. Not quite the beach, but it was beautiful none the less. Besides, I made enough wishes to get me through exams, remove Gale Norton from her beloved cabnet position, combat world hunger, and save ANWR. Not a bad night overall. Seeing as how it is 6am and I still haven't gone to sleep, I should probably hit the sack soon. Yippie! Bio presentation in the morning...more bitching tomorrow, I promise ;)

Campus Protests So remember last week when I promised to report on a campus walk out against the war? Well the professor asked at the beginning of class who would be was planning to walk out. Then, to my utter surprise, everyone started making jokes. "Did you hear Saddam agreed to the inspectors?" "Yeah and all because he heard that if he didn't, *college name here* girls would have to walk out of class." It was great. They were actually funny at the time. Then the professor started in. After a few jokes by him (he was also amused by the armbands), he said that he would schedule the break in the seminar for that time. I was able to get food, check my mail and make two phone calls during that time. I didn't hear or see any masses of people heading towards the central campus location where the Music! a Student Speaker! and Armbands! were to be held. Anyway, so all in all, nothing much happened.

UPDATE: So I had a blonde moment. I just realized that the email I posted says Wednesday, November 20. The protest hasn't happened yet. BUT, I might explain why I was confused. As a student leader on campus, and an adopted member of the sociology department, I got frantic emails asking me to tell my club members and make sure non-departmental students know about the event. We haven't heard a word about it since. No postings to campus announcement boards. Not a peep. There's something strange going on...

Gun Bitch So the photographer I mentioned in the previous post got kind of annoyed with me tonight. I wouldn't let him take a certain picture at the range with the muzzle of the gun facing down the line. Sure the magazine was out. Sure the action was open. But I refuse to do anything unsafe. I was willing to do more of a pose with the firearms at a safety class we had simply because there was no live ammo in the building. However, asking me to have a range member point the gun down the range with other shooters at the other end was unacceptable. Anyway, I wasn't rude about it. I just kept refusing all of his requests to do it. I even made sure that guns just sitting on the table or on the shooting bench were unloaded with the actions open. Yay for gun safety!

Busy, Busy Can we put the world on hold for like an hour? Preferably at 5:00 and 6:00 PM tonight so I can watch The Simpsons. Unfortunately, I have to miss them tonight. I will be taking pictures with guns. Why? Because somebody told me to. No, actually because it's going to accompany a story in a local publication about women and firearms. I always annoy photographers though. I will not compromise safety for a good photo. (Read: I won't let them stand in front of the gun and take a picture down the the barrel.) My hair is very blonde today for this photo. Any of the bitches want to help me color my hair this week? It will have to happen some night after 10. But I have to say, I'm very sorry to hear about Baby's crazy time in Canada. Poor girl. Canada can be a scary place sometimes. I actually have a few interesting things to blog about, but no time to do it until tonight after this photo shoot thingy. (Yes, thingy is a technical term.)

The good news about this thingy is that I actually get to go to the range for the first time in a couple of weeks. Shooting is one of the most relaxing activities I've ever participated in. You have to concentrate while doing it because of safety and because you want to improve from the last target. One girl I know described it as "Zen-like." I completely agree. You compete with yourself or others, so it's a flexible sport. You can clear your mind of all distractions, and it has the added benefit of producing some fine decorations for a dorm room wall! :)

Are they crazy??? Maybe I'm the underachiever, but these students seem a bit overkill. Granted, I'm designing a major, as is Preppy. First is double majoring, which I completely understand. Three? Four? That's a bit overkill. I can understand multiple degrees for those that are interested. I just hope that these quintuple majors are well rounded in other areas of their lives. Can anyone say social skills? I know, I sound mean. My experience with people who would do this if they were able has been a little disturbing. Of those that would chose 3+ majors, there seems to be a disproportionate occurrence of mental instability. I hope that my experience is the exception.

This applies to more than just guns. Read it. Why? Here's a quick overview:
Folks, when are we going to stop making excuses for brain-defective criminals? When are we going to stop being a nation of babies? Not that long ago people accepted responsibility for their actions and errors. Our great nation is being bankrupt by litigation and we all seem to sit back and shrug our shoulders as if nothing can be done. And so it begins... What cannot be legislated can always be litigated. We will lose our rights in the courts, not in congress. I am, and you should be afraid.

More Violence Well, I guess it's not surprising that there has been yet another terrorist attack (because that's what these people are) in Israel. Well, this was not actually within the pre-1967 Israel, but within the West Bank, which I suppose is a bit of an improvement. I know that this isn't a solution but it is certainly a little heartening. Well back to this, it appears that 12 Israelis were killed and 15 injured in an ambush in the West Bank city of Hebron. It wasn't a suicide bombing this time, this was a well planned out attack. These people were on their way to religious services at a holy site to both Jews and Muslims. Islamic Jihad has taken responsibility for this attack. Right now is the month of Ramadan, one of the holiest times in Islam. It just sickens me that these groups distort their religion to justify what they do, and the fact that Islam is supposed to be the religion of peace and during a holy month, these people could take other human lives. I think I may have found a great paper topic here.

So another week has ended, and what do I have to show for it? Well, As far as my academics are concerned, not much. Unfortunately, I've fallen into that bad old habit again...sure, I'll set my alarm clock for 6am and get up early to do ALL my work before class. Right! Who am I kidding? When I consistently go to bed at 3 or 4am every night, it shouldn't surprise me that my alarm clock magically turns itself off and I remain asleep until 10am. Does anyone know of an excessively annoying alarm clock (preferably cheap) that could potentially get my ass up in the morning? I suppose I could go to sleep earlier so that I'm actually well rested by the time 6 or 7am rolls around...nah, that's too simple. Because of my laziness or lack of self control, I am now forced to devote my entire weekend to the preparation of a bio presentation and next week's mid-term.

I feel the need to comment on the PETA demonstration during the taping of the Victoria's Secret fashion show. As a fellow activist, I support these women in their quest to defend and denounce practices they believe are in whatever way unethical. However, when demonstrating, it is important to a) not make yourself look like a bunch of crazy activists. It completely draws attention from your cause. b) draw attention to your cause without giving the media an opportunity to promote another corporation whose practices you also don't agree with (yes, Victoria’s secret has been accused of using sweat shop labor) that will most likely benefit from that advertisement. c) avoid arrest if at all possible. How great is it when you can prove your point without infringing on the law? d) If it's televised, make sure it's a live event. That way you'll avoid "b" and create more press coverage and for your demonstration rather than the event itself. Overall I applaud the efforts of these women. Next time I suggest jumping up on stage when she is actually wearing fur though. I really enjoyed that one time when they poured paint all over some model wearing fur down the run way a few years ago. I think that was a stronger statement. I must admit though, it has always been my wet dream to get arrested for demonstrating a personal political opinion...(sigh)

Well, I’m off to the shower now. Dirty girls with dirty thoughts (and dirty fantasies) need cleansing. The rest of my night will be spent enjoying mindless entertainment (8-mile) with a few of my bitch girls, and awaiting a phone call from my beau, who is away at his Fed Society conference in D.C. (I miss you, sweatheart ;)

Corporations Thank You PETA! I'm sure Victoria's Secret is more than happy to have the publicity of this now. Their models stayed poised, the segment was filmed again, and the PETA people got even more attention brought to the show. Yup, they thank you.

It's kind of like when the head of our communications department on campus didn't get upset about a student protest that had a "tent city" (I think a city calls for more than 4 tents myself) and lots of signs depicting the college as a monster eating money. First of all, it didn't actually get any press attention beyond one or two local stories. Even if it had, as he put, "It makes it look something is happening on campus, like we're exciting." Vicky's just got a few hundred thousand dollars in advertising.

A Bet So with the biggest rivalry of college football looming... of course you know I'm talking about the Ohio State-Michigan game... First and I have decided to make a bet. The bet is if my team should lose I have to put up a Michigan flag on my door, if Michigan should lose then First must display an Ohio State flag on her door. There will be photographs taken to document the fulfillment of the bargain. We'll set something up so everyone can see it. After next Saturday look for a post titled "Walk of Shame".

What paper? I don't have any stinkin' paper! Oh wait, yes I do. Well that sucks for me now doesn't it? I'm the kind of student that professors have to hate. I have it in me to do quite well, but I put my energy in other areas of my life so that class doesn't always take the priority it should. I know my advisors want to kick my butt half of the time.

Anyway, point of this post...well there is no point. Except I am listening to show tunes. Yes, that's right show tunes. I temporarily put my country playlist on hold and turned on the Broadway songs. Maybe I'm just in a happy mood (even if not as happy as First B. now that she heard her boyfriend's cute voicemail message), but I wanted to post these lyrics. They are from "Seasons of Love" from Rent.
five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
five hundred twenty five thousand moments so dear
five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
how do you measure? measure a year
in daylights, in sunsets,
in midnights, in cups of coffee,
in inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife
in five hundred twenty five thousand six hundred minutes
how do you measure a year in a life?
Awww....now doesn't everyone feel better? The world is a happier place now. Or it's not. And I still have one more book to read and 8 more pages to write. Oh yeah, and I want some answers to my question!

What the hell? Do they even try to pretend to be non-partisan anymore? I love the headline:

Should it matter that she's a woman? And why the hell does a liberal represent all women? At least try to pretend. Please?

The F- Word Revisited Here's an alright article on feminism over on Fox's campus section. I don't think the overall article is that interesting, but there's one section that reminded me of something only slightly more interesting.
What's your definition of feminism? Is it a bunch of butch women holding protests that claim men are responsible for the oppression of women? Is it a woman who won't allow a man to hold open her door, pay for her dinner or walk her home? Is it a woman who only dates other women so she won't have to deal with men?
A classmate in my media ethics class recently posed this question. I was surprised by not only how many people gave a startling definition of feminism but also how many people don't call themselves feminists.
A recent alumna friend of mine told me that she was asked to have dinner with Gloria Steinam when she was visiting the area because of her involvement in student government. (Take that as a warning First Bitch!) Anyway, at the dinner, Gloria started the conversation by asking all of the women if they consider themselves feminists. The answers, coming from students at a women's college, would be obvious to this question, right? Wrong, bitch! (Sorry, couldn't help myself there.) All seven of the students either answered with "no" or one of the "yes, but..." answers. Poor little Gloria was stunned. According to my friend, the rest of the dinner was in spent in silence.

Cheer up Preppy I promise you'll find a great guy some day to spend the rest of your life with. It's not better to just have a guy around to HAVE A GUY AROUND, unless you want them to be a large part of your future (which doesn't usually go through the minds of undergraduate boys). Short term romances are more frustrating; you end up settling for less than you deserve and are constantly lowering your standards. Let's be honest, in this type of an environment (not just at our school but in all the undergrad schools around us) it is almost impossible to find someone worthy of our precious time. I'm not saying it's entirely impossible, but chances are very slim. This is ok though, because you are only 20 years old, and you have the rest of your life ahead of you! Imagine if you were forced to pick from the "Rural New England" pool of men. Would you be satisfied? How many very eligible batchlors would you be excluding? I'm sure there are more suited gentlemen in other cities (Perhaps D.C.). Don't get down just because you can't seem to find a man here (for the record, all male persons are boys in this of New England area). This is such a small portion of the country! My best advice is this: Don't go in pursuit of love. It will come to you at a time and place that you'll least expect. At the same time, explore, live life, and be independent. You'll know when that special someone comes around...but until then don't get down on yourself!!

To address the bastards who broke into your car...it just proves my point: Do you really want to be dating Rural New England Boys??? Don't worry...Because they didn't get caught practicing these crimes, they'll probably get into something bigger, get caught, and land in jail for a greater number of years than they would have if they were only caught breaking into cars...what goes around comes around (sorry to use such a ciché , but it's true).

Saddam = Crusher I've been thinking lately... with this whole Iraq thing going on, I wonder how many people actually know what the name "Saddam" means and how uncommon it is in the Arab world. The name Saddam literally means "crusher" in Arabic. Interesting, no? Apparently there aren't many male children named this name in the Arab world. So I guess it's no surprise it seems like fate/destiny that this man is the tryannical ruler that he is. Check out this and this and this and this.

I <3 Environmentalists and so should you Sometimes people wonder why environmental watch groups and public interest groups (USPIRG's, Sierra Club, Greenpeace, Environmental Defense, Rainforest Action Network...) are vital in ensuring the protection of our health and environment in this wonderful country. Here are is a prime example. Today, thanks to Christine Whittman (head of the EPA) we are forced to rely on these watch groups, working on minute budgets and limited professional resources, to enforce policies that our own Government creates!!! What is this world coming to? Our government is no longer enviornmentaly responsible!! Arg! It's a good thing I plan on working for Environmental Defense...don't fuck a with tha environment...no body fucks a with tha environment...the EPA should pay for me to go through Law School...because aparently they don't have any decient ones working for them right now! click me for a good time

Staples Announces Historic Commitment to Endangered Forests and Recycled Paper!

Following a two-year campaign targeting Staples, the world's largest office supply store, the company today announced a commitment to phase out paper products originating from endangered forests and dramatically increase its sale of recycled paper products. Activists across the country are celebrating a grassroots victory! Thanks to each of you that helped make this victory possible!

Under Staples new guidelines, an industry-first, the company will:
·Phase out purchases of paper products from endangered forests,
including key forests in the Southern US, U.S. National Forests, and the world's last remaining ancient forests such as the Boreal forests of Canada
·Achieve an average of 30% post consumer recycled content across all paper products
·Report annually to the public on its progress toward reaching these goals
·Aggressively market and promote recycled paper products both in-store and through ads and coupons
·Create an environmental affairs division headed by a senior
executive reporting to Staples CEO

The Staples Campaign has been a huge grassroots campaign challenging corporate power and demanding accountability for the environmental impact of products sold by this office supply giant. The campaign has included over 600 demonstrations, nearly 35 banners dropped on storefronts, 21 arrests in acts of civil disobedience, creative street theater, over 15,000 postcards, thousands of phone calls to the corporate headquarters and regional offices, hundreds of letters from concerned citizens, 75 children's drawings, coverage in more than 10 national media outlets and over 50 local media outlets, a shareholder's resolution, and flying the CEO over clearcuts on
the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee. The coalition of groups working on
this campaign has involved dozens of local, regional and national groups and thousands of individuals. Today's announcement is testament to the power of thousands of people joining together against a single corporation to demand environmental change.

The announcement comes a day before the 5th National Day of Action targeting Staples. Instead, we're encouraging people to make Wednesday a day of celebration for the forests- take a hike, contact the press, and celebrate our collective success!

We are now looking to Staples' major competitors, including Office Depot, Office Max, and Corporate Express to follow Staples lead and make a commitment to endangered forests and recycled paper products.

The groups who have been involved in the paper campaign targeting Staples include Dogwood Alliance, ForestEthics, American Lands Alliance, Allegheny Defense Project, Cascadia Forest Alliance, Center for a New American Dream, groups of Earth First!, Ecopledge.com, Green Corps, Kentucky Heartwood, Sierra Student Coalition, Southern Appalachian Biodiversity Project, Free the Planet, Heartwood, Native Forest Network, National Forest Protection Alliance, Rainforest Action Network, Rainforest Relief, ReThink Paper, Student Environmental Action Coalition, Wild Alabama, Iowa STEP, Shenendoah Ecosystem Defense Group, GrassRoots Recycling Network, Indiana Forest Alliance and many other local groups.

It Sucks To Be Me So it's pity party for Preppy again. So now I know you're thinking what else can this girl be complaining about, well I'll tell you. I went out to my car tonight to drive to another town that actually has businesses that are geared towards college students to get a cup of coffee and chill with First. Well we get there and I go to unlock my door, when I looked down I knew something was wrong. There hadn't been any chipped paint around my lock when I locked it Saturday night. Well I tried the latch before I attempted to unlock it and sure enough the door opened. Now I may go to "elitist school in rural New England", but we're still not as rural as some people would like to think. Compared to home this is pretty damn cityfied (is that a word?). My glove compartment was open and the contents were strewn everywhere. Thankfully I had taken the face plate off my stereo, the only thing worth anything in the damn car. I drove straight over to the campus police to report it, as if they can do anything now. Apparently I am the ninth report of "auto break-in" ( I don't know the real term so I'm making stuff up) in the past two weeks. I'm the 20th in the semester... the 20th in two and a half months. That means that there has been more than one break in every week since we've been back at school. This is completely unacceptable. I know I'm lucky that nothing was taken, but the fact remains someone unlawfully broke and entered into my property, went through my things. I feel violated and somewhat unsafe in an environment that for the past two years I've never feared for my safety before. I think the shock of it all is wearing off, so I'm going to go cry now and finish drinking the near to a liter bottle of 151 and coke that I made for myself (wooohooo).

Stress Level Coming Down I've finally finished my midterms. I feel like such an idiot at the moment though, becuase here I am reading about really recent (meaning 1970's-1980's) developments in the Middle East and this midterm didn't go past the 6 Day War. Oh well, at least I was prepared. So with that over, my stress level is taking a dive and I can get some much needed rest tonight, and tomorrow night. Oh Bitter, look at the firearm I'd be.

Oh so much to blog about. I'll get the trivial stuff out of the way. This way it moves down on the page, and I might actually get someting interesting at the top so people will want to visit us. First Bitch is sick. Preppy Bitch is on her way to getting sick. Now Bitter Bitch is on her way to getting sick. (See, I'm was posting in third person, that's not a good sign at all!) If I'm lucky, I'll get over it before it starts. But headaches and a soar throat aren't good signs. Granted, had I gone to bed at a reasonable hour the night before last, eaten breakfast or lunch today, or even not started off the week hung over, things might be better. Maybe tonight I'll get some soup or something.

The second thing to do is my mindless post of the day. (I know you are thinking, "Wait, there's only one?") Thanks to Rodger Schultz, I found another nifty quiz. It's really nifty. I only indulge in these once in a while, but this one really got my attention.

More Personal Ranting I swear this is going to be the last time I use this as an outlet to rant about my personal life. I just really need to get something off my mind so I can actually get this damn book read so I have a chance of passing a test I have to take tomorrow. So I believe I have posted about a man that I have been trying to figure out for a while now. Well I've had it, I don't have the time or energy to be thinking about anything that might, could or I wanted to be. As my wonderful best friend Classy pointed out to me, he's not worth it. However, this doesn't lessen the hurt that I feel, because I genuinely felt that there was something there. I'm sure I'll cry about this enough tonight, but that's good, because I'll get it out and hopefully be able to move on. I need to move on, I have a difficult enough time of year coming up for me as it is. I will soon be "celebrating" the year anniversary of when I was told I was no longer my father's daughter. To the date that will be next Thursday, November 21st. It's hard to believe that it was a year ago. At times it seems like it was so much longer than that. Well at least this year I will be at home during Thanksgiving and not here in rural New England. I really need some time away from everything and everyone. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like that is going to be possible until March of this coming year. My cousin told me she feels I could use some time to myself for some serious self-reflection. I think she's right. I need to realize what I want out of life, and how I intend to get it, and know I can do it on my own. That's why I'm thinking of going to somewhere I can backpack for a few days over spring break this year. It seems to me to be a much more productive use of the time I will have off, than what was originally my plan (no offense to my fellow bitches my original plans were with, this is cheaper and I need some alone time). So with all this I am off to read all night long and kick some ass on that damn test tomorrow afternoon.

Idea! So I had this idea that might be fun. I could reserve the "central campus location" that I mentioned in the protest announcement sometime. If I reserve it, it doesn't matter what happens, they can't be on it. I could just spend my time dancing in circles on the area, but they can't step foot on it to lead their own event. And if I reserve it for a private function, they can't even dance in circles with me. Hmmmm....maybe I should look into this.

Gonna Go Shootin' So Jeff over at Alphecca.com says he wants to meet me at the range sometime. I'm always up for shooting! I really love to go during finals. :) In fact, after I get some sleep (not until tomorrow night by the way) I think I'll head down to the range near me. I love it there because they are so incredibly nice to me. Have the time they don't even charge me the rental fee for the gun just because I've been so loyal to them. Plus, they have 2 cute college guys that work there!

Oh, and I'm coming up on an important anniversary. In just over a month, I will have fired a gun for the first time two years ago. I'll save that story for the day of the anniversary.

Is It Legal... to give an exam so completely unrelated to the readings and lecture, that people give up attempting to be coherent? (Or was that due to the fact that I slept for about an hour last night?) for a college department to send out word of a walkout that encourages students to walk out of class during the time that about 85% of their upperlevel seminars take place?

Obviously, I know it's legal to encourage such behavior. But now I have to ask if it's wise. Would any of the professors (two links, one word, oh yeah!) out there in the Blogosphere appreciate it if they suddenly got an email that was also sent to all of the majors and minors in their department asking them to join in a class walkout to oppose the war against Iraq? Now I have to ask myself what I will do. My seminar tomorrow only has 12 other people in it. All of the ones that I actually know are against the war. The professor is also against the war. What happens when they all get up to walk out? Will I cave to peer pressure or stay in class? Should I get up and instead head to the computer lab in the building to check my email and blog? Should I use it as an excuse to go back to bed and sleep? (Ohhh...that option is sounding pretty good...) Should I be forced to justify my views on the approaching war in a class that has nothing to do with public policy, foriegn or domestic? I don't doubt that I will be targeted in class with such questions once the other students and the professor come back.

Also, will they come back? :) Just take a look at the fabulous offerings at tomorrow's protest!
When: Wednesday, November 20; 2:15 pm- 2:35 pm
Where: *edited* A central campus location *end edit*
Why: To protest the US war on Iraq
What: Walk out of class, followed by a rally on *edit* A central campus location *end edit* with Music, posters, armbands, a student Speaker-- to show SOLIDARITY against the war with Iraq
Please come, be heard, and sign a National Referendum for No War with Iraq.
Do you see that? Armbands! Music! A student Speaker! And it's all in the name of SOLIDARITY! How can anyone turn down the opportunity to walk out of class for this?

Would it be mean to name my possibly future kid Solidarity? He would always feel so special in college.
